Puawai Aroha set up in November 1996. There is no entry or membership fee to be associated with the group. The group originally set up to maintain the culture of our fore-fathers through song, dance and the passing on of valued knowledge to those who seek it. Simply, we are families with Maori cultural background sharing our knowledge to the community here in Townsville / Thuringowa and the surounding districts.
This group is for all New Zealanders within the north Queensland region and also any others who may want to be part of it. Our objectives are to promote family values, friendship and community support. We are here to "Awhina(assist), Tautoko(support) and Awhi(embrace)" any who would like our company. Wairua Aroha(spiritual love) flows within us, as we are all connected through this wairua.
In recent times the group has lost members to cancer and currently have been devoting time and energy towards raising funds for the Queensland Cancer RELAY FOR LIFE event held each year. You are welcome to visit the "Relay For Life" link below.
