Puawai Aroha is a non-profitable community organisation. There is the the family community assist and support group(Ngati Whanau Awhina) and the
dance group(Papa Puawai) which also includes language classes.

The Ngati Whanau Awhina group is for all New Zealanders within the north Queensland region and also any others who may want to be part of it. Our objectives are to promote family values, friendship and community support. We are here to "Awhina(assist), Tautoko(support) and Awhi(embrace)" all people.
Wairua Aroha(spiritual love) flows within  us, as we are all connected through this wairua.

The
Papa Puawai group is the dancers or simply, we are families with Maori cultural background sharing our knowledge to the community here in Townsville and the surounding districts through our songs and dancing.
The Kohanga Reo(language) sessions are also part of the Papa Puawai group.

As said and past on by our ancestors:

"HIKOI NGIA NGA HUARAHI O TE AO ENGARI KOUA E WAREWARE KI TE IWI KAINGA".
"SEEK THE MANY PATHS TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD BUT DON'T EVER FORGET THE  HOME FOLK".

In recent times we have lost family and group members who have battled with cancer. Our ongoing involvment with the Queensland Cancer Foundation is our Relay for life Teams.
Puawai Aroha was an inaugural team that entered into the
RELAY FOR LIFE event in 2003. The groups relay for life team members devote their time and energy towards raising funds for  this Towsnville event each year.

WHATS ON IN 2010
In Brief:
Puawai Aroha was established in November 1996. There is no entry or membership fee to be associated with this group. It was originally set up to maintain the culture of their fore-fathers through song, dance and the sharing of valued knowledge to those who seek it.
